The samples are usually sent to the participating laboratories every quarter.
-
Participating laboratories report results to CAP for assessment
-
PT assesses the accuracy of results and is part of quality control.
-
PT results obtained allow detection of analytical, clerical and interpretation errors
-
They must be investigated and documented.

A target standard deviation index (SDI) of 0 is desired.
Proficiency testing & al mokhtabar laboratories
al mokhtabar laboratories enrolled in the approved CAP survey program from 2007 for most tests performed in the laboratory for which the surveys are available. For those rare tests for which there is no survey, accuracy and reliability of the test is determined at least semi-annually by an alternate method such as splitting samples between two different technicians, splitting specimens and sending part to a reference laboratory for duplicate analysis.
Each year since 2007 we received the certification of CAP PT Survey to validate our successful passing of all proficiency testing for that year (we received CAP PT Survey 2007, 2008, 2009 and received the final CAP certificate in 2010)
